Toilet Paper Roll Pillow Box Tutorial
- Toilet paper roll.
- Decorative paper.
- Pencil or pen.
- Adhesive glue roller.
- Tulle or ribbon.
You’re going to start by making sure your toilet paper roll is as clean as possible. Get any little bits of leftover paper off. Then you want to squish it flat, using your fingertip or the side of a pencil to crease the two folds. Let it pop back open, and you have the basic shape of the pillow box. Line your roll up on the edge of your decorative paper, and mark the edge. Then draw a line straight up the paper. It’s better to have a bit of extra paper at the edges than having too little, so double check your measurements!
Go ahead and cut off the strip of paper. Take your adhesive roller and place adhesive all along the edges of the top half of the paper, and make little dots and dashes of adhesive all over the inside of the paper. Place the edge of the paper in the middle back of the roll. You don’t want it on a crease. Then roll it around the toilet paper roll, smoothing it down as you go and pressing the paper firmly around the creases.
When you get to the back again, fold the paper over the edge like shown to see how much you need to cut off. I recommend aiming for about a 1/4 to half inch overlap. Add adhesive to the rest of the paper and finish smoothing it down, pressing well where the paper overlaps. Now take one end of the roll and push one half down and in like shown. The motion is best done with your thumbs, and should start at the corners. It’s very much like closing a roll of coins.
Fold the other side down as well, and it should slightly overlap the first fold. Then take your thumb and forefinger and pinch the corners to make it extra stable. Repeat on the other side. Cut a length of tulle or ribbon.
Place the tulle across the back of the box. You can either tie it to go around the box, or to close off the ends, so it’s your choice where to place the tulle. Flip the box over, cross the tulle, and tie a simple knot. Finish it off with a bow, and you’re all done!
