I love love love sunflowers! They are just so pretty to me. And, when I was teacher, my little learners would create the most beautiful thumbprint sunflower art project to decorate our bulletin board for the Fall!

Sunflower Craft Supplies:

  • Yellow construction paper.
  • Paper Plate.
  • Black paint.
  • Scissors.
  • School glue.
  • Optional – green construction paper

This fun craft is super easy and can be done by young crafters with very little supervision. But, like many crafts, you may need to help them with the cutting if they are very young.

Let’s get started on this fun little Thumbprint Sunflower Art Project! First, gather all of your supplies. This will make crafting a lot easier.  Since this craft is made with construction paper, paint, a paper plate, and school glue, it shouldn’t take long to gather all of your supplies.

Begin by dipping your fingertip or thumb into some black paint. You can add a little dish soap to the paint to make clean up a little easier! Then, put your finger or thumbprint onto the middle of the paper plate. Fill the entire middle section of the plate with fingerprints.

Then, cut yellow flower petals from the construction paper. While you cut the flower petals, the black paint will dry.

Next, glue the flower petals around the edge of the paper plate. Glue one layer all the way around the plate. Then add a second layer, but offset the paper flower petals a little. Once the Sunflower Art Project glue is fully dry, you can bend and shape the petals some to give them added dimension.

Finally, you can add the sunflowers to your fall bulletin board or, cut some stems and leaves from construction paper and have a full sunflower plant.
