Hello there! I’m so excited to share this Hole Punch Fireworks Art Project with you today. I love finding ways to use up bits of scrap paper and recycle them into cute projects. Plus, this project is great for kids who need to strengthen their hands for writing skills, playing instruments, or sports!
Keep in mind that you can use any colors of paper for your hole punch fireworks art project, so just use what you have already at home. Just make sure the paper is double sided, so the colors show up. Construction paper and colored printer paper work great. Here’s what you’ll need!
You could make this patriotic construction paper wreath at the same time with the same materials!

Supplies:
- Black paper for the background
- Three colors of double sided paper to make your fireworks (try to use scrap paper!)

- Pencil

Here’s the part where our hands get a really good workout! Start punching out your three colors of paper for your fireworks. I keep the holes as close together as possible so no paper gets wasted. I made sure that there were three equal piles of each color, and then mixed them together. Make sure to punch out a lot! I needed about three times as many paper circles for this whole project. I had to make a bunch more part way through the project.
Don’t throw away the sheets of hole punched paper though! You can use them as stencils for painting textures in art journals or other projects!
Now you’re going to take your piece of black paper and set it horizontally. Use your pencil to mark a few dots around the paper for the center of your fireworks. Then draw curved lines coming off of each of these dots. Don’t draw too many, or your fireworks will blend into one big blob. Take your glue and only open up the tip a little bit. You want a pretty thin line. Go ahead and trace one or two of your fireworks with the glue at a time.
Sprinkle your paper circles on, making sure all the glue is covered. Press down gently with your finger tips to secure the circles, and then let tilt the paper upright and gently shake off the loose circles. See how it makes really colorful fireworks? If they’re too bulky for you, you can also add the dots one at a time if you’re super patient!
Now just go ahead and do the rest of your fireworks one or two at a time. When you’re all done, let the glue dry completely before you hang it up.
