Heart Shaped Flag Art Project

It’s almost summer and there are important patriotic holidays to teach your little ones about. My little learners were always eager to learn about the difference between Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day, and even Presidents Day. So this is a year-round patriotic craft activity to bookmark for later. And, this darling heart shaped flag art project is perfect for Flag Day or Independence Day!

Flag Craft Supplies:

  • Pen or pencil.
  • Red, white, and blue construction paper. You could also cut up recycle magazines with red, white and blue images!
  • Scissors.
  • School glue.
  • White craft paint or a white marker.

This is such a fun way for your little learners to learn about the importance of Memorial Day and create a pretty little flag that can be displayed all Summer long. This would also be a great project for the July 4th! 

Let’s get started on this fun project! First, gather all of your supplies. This will make crafting a lot easier.

Begin by cutting out a white heart shape from the white construction paper. 

Then, cut out red strips of paper and a blue rectangle of paper. 

Next, glue the blue square to the top corner of the heart.

Then, glue the red strips of paper onto the white heart, creating red and white stripes. And carefully trim the excess red and blue paper around the heart.

Finally, use the paint brush or your fingertip to paint white stars in the blue section of your heart shaped flag.

That’s it! This is such a fun and easy art project to make with your little 6-8 year old artists before or during the patriotic summer holidays. Or make it an early summer rainy day activity while they get a little cabin fever.
