Handprint Tree Art Project

By the time school starts back up, I am ready for all the Fall things! I love the smells and sounds of fall. And when I was teaching my kids loved all of the fun Fall art projects. This is a sweet way to capture the size of a little one’s hand and fingerprints in a simple art project too.

Handprint Tree Art Project

Supplies:

  • 1 piece of brown colored paper.
  • 1 piece of white or even light blue paper.
  • Several colors of paint – I used green and yellow, but yellow, red, and orange would have worked too.
  • School Glue.
  • Scissors.

This project is great for younger elementary aged children. They won’t need a lot of hands on help to create this beautiful handprint tree art project. However, you could do this project with younger children too. But, you will need to assist them more.

Start this project by tracing your little one’s hand and part of their forearm on a sheet of brown paper. Or, you could use a paper bag too to add a little more texture and save paper.

Then, cut out the hand and arm tracing.

Next, add a little glue to the back of the paper cut out, and place it on the white or blue piece of paper. This is your tree trunk, so be sure to glue the bottom of the arm near the bottom of the paper.

Now, it’s time to have a little more fun and get a little messy! Then, add some paint to a palette or paper plate. Then, dip your little one’s finger tips into the paint and allow them to add fingerprint leaves all around their finger “branches” on the tree. They can be as creative as they want, and even mix colors to create beautiful leaves. They can even use their fingerprints to create grass on the bottom of the paper!
