When my boys were younger we would craft a few days a week after school. They all loved the opportunity to create freely, and I loved seeing what they created! One of their favorite holiday crafts was the DIY Felt Christmas Tree Ornament craft we made.
Felt Christmas Tree Craft for Kids
Make this cute pom pom photo ornament while you’re crafting today!
Christmas Tree Craft for Kids Supplies:
- Green felt.
- Scissors.
- Glue – I used fabric glue, but hot glue would work too.
- Sequins or beads.
- Candy canes – I used candy cane pens.
- Optional – ribbon.
This fun craft is super easy and can be done by elementary school crafters with very little supervision. And, it is a great activity for fine motor skills development too!
Let’s get started on this fun DIY felt Christmas tree craft! First, gather all of your supplies. This will make crafting a lot easier.
First, cut out Christmas tree shapes from the felt. We used green felt for these trees, but you could use white felt too!

Now, carefully cut a few straight lines in the middle of the tree. They need to be big enough to fit the candy cane, but not too big. The candy cane should fit snugly in the holes you cut.
Then, use glue and sequins or beads to add ornaments to your Christmas tree.
Once the glue has dried, carefully slide the candy cane through the holes. The bottom of the candy cane will be the tree trunk.
Finally, you can hang your DIY felt Christmas trees on some ribbon or on the Christmas tree. Or, you can share them with friends and family!
