Everyone needs a good sunglasses case! They get tossed in bags, thrown on car seats, and are just generally prone to getting scratched and scuffed. Today I’m going to show to how to make this Easy Felt Sunglasses Case that only takes a couple minutes to whip up and can fit any sized glasses you have! Most store bought cases are either way too big or too small, but this can easily be sized to fit little kid sunglasses or those really big “I was up all night with a fussy toddler” glasses we all love!

Easy Felt Sunglasses Case
Supplies:
- Your sunglasses!
- Felt. I use stiffened felt for this, but any kind works well.
- Embroidery thread
- Needle
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Scissors
Start out by measuring your sunglasses and figuring out the size you’ll need your case to be. The easier method is to wrap a piece of felt around the glasses and add an extra inch to the measurements. I wanted a color blocked effect, so my case ended up being made out of 4 piece of felt. The two main magenta pieces were 4.5 inches wide by 6 inches long , and the two blue pieces were 4.5 inches wide by 2 inches long. These measurements fit a pretty big pair of glasses with room to spare to tuck in a cleaning cloth or lip balm. Now you’re going to cut a long piece of embroidery thread and split it in half, as we’re only using three strands at a time. Set the other three strands aside for when you run out of thread!

Go ahead and layer the blue felt on top of the pink, with a half inch overlap. Now you’re going to sew the two together with a decorative stitch. You can use a favorite stitch, or the one I used! It’s a simple X stitch, and really easy to figure out even if you’re not a sewer. Insert the needle from the back of the blue felt up through the front. Then stitch down into the pink on a diagonal, like the first line of an X. Go straight across the back of the pink, and bring the needle back up directly across from where the needle went in. Now complete the X by pushing the needle back into the blue. Then you just go straight across the blue and come back up through the front to start your next X.
This is what the back will look like when you’re all done, and this is what the front will look like! So cute! Just knot the thread off in the back. Then you just need to stitch the other two pieces of felt together in the same way! Now that both sides of our case are done, we need to put them together. Lay one piece on top of the other, with right sides out so you see the X’s on both sides.
Now you are just going to sew all the way around the case, leaving the blue end open! You can do a simple whip stitch or do a blanket stitch like I did! When you’re all done, just knot off the thread. Then all you need to do is set your sunglasses in!
I love that these little cases only take about 20-30 minutes to make, they’re a great beginner sewing and embroidery project, and they can be made to fit all kinds of sunglasses! I hope you make this Easy Felt Sunglasses Case soon!
