When my boys were younger and got crabby, I would put them in the tub or take them on a “bear hunt” through our thoroughly suburban neighborhood. It was the perfect way to combat grouchy moods, and we all felt so much better. Since we have been home a lot lately, we have taken a lot of walks through our neighborhood. And, we have seen so many other families doing the same thing. Our neighbors have two younger kids, so we thought it would be fun to make some paper tube binoculars and a printable neighborhood scavenger hunt for them to enjoy.
We have more printable scavenger hunts here!
Paper Tube Binoculars Project
Supplies:
- 2 Paper Tube Rolls.

- Ribbon or Yarn.
- Printable Scavenger Hunt Page.
- Hole Punch.
Begin by cutting a piece of construction paper to wrap around both paper tubes.

Then, glue the tubes together, side by side.
Now, add glue to the cut piece of construction paper. I used an old paint brush to spread the glue evenly over the entire sheet of paper. Once the glue is applied to the paper, wrap it around the paper tubes.
After the glue has dried, punch two holes in the paper tube binoculars. Then, add ribbon or yarn to make a strap for the binoculars.
Finally, print up the scavenger hunt printable and take a walk through the neighborhood:

We made several sets and printed up several scavenger hunts to drop off at my sister’s house and at some of our friends’ houses. I am hoping we can have a friendly competition with our scavenger hunts!
I hope this project has inspired you to take the time to walk through your neighborhood and see all the things.
