I noticed last week that the people behind the My Little Pony spinoff Equestria Girls are putting out a new movie called Rainbow Rocks. My kids are sadly a little too old for My Little Pony, which seemed to attract a whole new audience (and even a little street cred) with their Friendship is Magic show that started in 2010. The show – seemingly targeted to girls – actually has a small but loyal following of guys, who even have their own nickname, “Bronies”. The equestria girls are actually the My Little Pony characters that have crossed over into the human world and turned into their human counterparts.
If you’re a fan of My Little Pony, you might like our MLP pumpkin stencils, too!
Interestingly, I think this is the first time the My Little Pony franchise is appearing in theaters. It looks to be an extremely limited release, though – the movie comes out September 27, and just one month later on October 28th, it is being released on DVD. Here’s the official trailer that was shown at Comic-Con in July:
I admit – that trailer isn’t really very good. At all. The gist of the story is that the girls get into a rock n roll battle of the bands style conflict with a new nemesis, Adagio Dazzle. and their old nemesis, Sunset Shimmer, is catching on to the fact that the Equestria Girls are not ordinary ‘girls’. Here is a slightly longer clip from the movie, but is really a glorified mini music video instead. At least the music is tolerable!!
