Coffee Filter Suncatcher Craft

Today we’re making this super easy Coffee Filter Suncatcher Craft! You only need a couple items to make these, and you probably have them already in the house. They’re a great way to keep kids busy, here’s what you’ll need to get started.

Here’s a slightly more advanced art project that can also be made with stuff you probably have around the house – a tissue paper confetti collage

Supplies:

  • Coffee filters.
  • Washable markers.
  • Paper plates.
  • Spray bottle filled with water.
  • Washi tape or clear tape to hang them up with.

Start by flattening out your coffee filter. Then place it on a paper plate. Go ahead and color your filter however you would like.

You don’t need to color super neat, or fill in all the spaces. This is a very forgiving project, which makes it perfect for little kids. See why we use a paper plate? The marker likes to soak through the filter, and when we do our next step it can get messy.

When your filter is all colored in, grab your spray bottle full of water, and start spritzing your filter with water. The more you spray, the more the marker colors will start to run and blend together.

You can either spray a lot or a little. It’s up to you! When you’re happy with how it looks, set it to the side to dry. Now you can work on your next one! This one I made in all greens and blues.

And you can even make one that’s all little blobs of colors. Have fun and experiment with different colors and patterns.

Remember though, the more water your spray, the more abstract your design will become. Set all of your sun catchers aside to dry for a couple of hours.

When they’re completely dry, go ahead an remove them from the paper plates. Look at how the marker dyed the paper plate too! It makes such a cool pattern.

Now go ahead and hang them up in a window or glass door! I used washi tape for easy removal, but your can use clear tape or even cute stickers to hang them up too.

And you’re all done! I hope you had fun learning how to make this Coffee Filter Suncatcher Craft with me!
