Bird Seed Chick Art Project

We recently had a family of birds make a nest under our large gardenia bush. I love baby birds, and the new additions to our yard inspired me to create a few fun new projects. But, I really love this bird seed chick art project so much!   And, it’s so much better for the environment than glitter.

Craft Project Supplies:

  • Paper.
  • School Glue.
  • Pencil.
  • Inexpensive, small bird seed.
  • Optional – Paint Brush

This project is perfect for little ones. You could use this in a preschool lesson about nature or birds. And, if you make this darling little bird seed chick outside, clean up is a breeze!

Begin by sketching a chick onto a sheet of paper. You can print up a bird silhouette, cut it out, and trace it onto the paper. My sons are gifted artists, so one of them just sketched a chick onto the paper.

Then, squeeze out a little bit of school glue onto the paper inside the sketched bird.

Next, use your fingers or a paint brush to spread the glue all over the chick or bird.

Now, pour some seeds onto the glue. Add more than you think you will need, and be sure to cover the entire bird.

Allow the glue to dry. We waited a few hours to make sure everything was secure. This would be a good opportunity to teach your artists about birds and how eggs hatch.

Then, carefully shake off the excess bird seed. We just put the extra seed on the ground near the new birds’ nest that we have.

That’s it! This is such fun way to make a sweet little bird project! It would be an awesome project for spring art classes, or even with lessons about birds and spring babies. And, it’s perfect for kids of all ages.
