When I was a teacher, I always struggled with engaging the kids in musical lessons. But, they all loved making their own musical instruments. And, this DIY Banjo craft was super easy and fun to make with my little learners.

Let’s get started on this cute little project! First, gather all of your supplies. This will make crafting a lot easier.
Begin by painting or coloring your craft stick. I found colorful craft sticks at the local craft store. So I didn’t need to color mine.
Then, paint the inside of the jar lid.
Next, place five rubber bands on the jar lid. The jar lid is the body of the banjo.
Then, hot glue the craft stick onto the back of the jar lid and secure it and the rubber bands in place.

Finally, listen to some bluegrass music and let your little ones jam with their new pocket banjos! They might not be in tune, but the craft does indeed produce a mini ‘banjo’ that can play sounds.
That’s it! This is such a fun craft to do with and for your little ones. It would be great to include as part of a unit on Letter B, or on an introduction to music unit. And, I hope it has inspired you to make a DIY banjo craft project and sweet music with your little ones!
