Spring is just around the corner and it can’t come soon enough! Nothing brightens our days more than a cheerful rainbow, and these adorable printable rainbow coloring pages are a great way to welcome spring with a smile! Growing up in Chicago, rainbows have always been a wonderful rare treat. But when I lived in Arizona for a few years in college, I was surprised to see that they get them so much more often than we do here – I miss that so much! The seven main colors that appear naturally in real rainbows are Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple-Blue Indigo and Violet. The first coloring page below has all seven color bands, but the others have six, so if you want to be true to nature, it would be easiest to leave out Indigo to get the full spectrum effect.

Over on Craft Jr., we have two fun rainbow crafts/recipes: this construction paper rainbow mobile (great for grades K-4), and a yummy rainbow fruit platter – it will get nearly any kid to eat their fruit serving for the day!

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and it couldn’t come fast enough for us – anything that gets us farther away from this horrible awful winter is great for us! My kids are getting a little older now, and they don’t have Valentine’s Day parties at school anymore. That kind of bums me out – because not only am I missing out on creating and giving away Valentine’s goodies, but now they are old enough to have REAL VALENTINES. As in, like dances, dates, and crushes – OH MY! I prefer my February celebrations with a lot less drama and a lot more crafting and coloring.

My youngest daughter will still color, and in fact she specifically asked me to print out these heart, love and Valentine coloring pages for her this week. I’m really hoping it’s because she just wants to color – and not because she’s got puppy love on her mind – YIKES!

I have loved fairies ever since I was a little girl, they have always had a magical place in my heart. Fairies will never get old or go out of style, their beauty seems to be eternal! As a kid, I always deeply wished they were real, and could always somehow just barely convince myself of the logic: how could all of these different cultures and story sources describe fairies in such a similar way? It “must” be because there were real fairies at some point in history! Evidently I’m not the only one to think that – surprisingly, there are some “real-life” sources for fairy folklore, including many legends of a lost race of beings that might not have been human, or at least normal human beings by the standards set forth hundreds of years ago. An example would be the African pygmies.

Here are all of our fairy coloring page collections all in one place, which my daughter wants to color over and over again. The butterfly and flower fairy collections are more intricate and detailed, and better for older children. The wings and dresses of the fairies on these pages are – you guessed it, butterfly wings and flower petals.  The cute, pixie and Tinkerbell collections have several options with simpler shapes that will be more suitable for younger children to color. And by the way, I drew up the Tink coloring pages myself, and there are several of the other Disney fairy characters (Irridessa, Rosetta and Silvermist) – so you’ll only find those on the Woo! Jr. Network.

By the way, we have two wonderful and fun fairy craft projects over on Craft Jr – making miniature fairy houses, and planting a small indoor fairy garden!

These wonderful worksheets have been sitting on my dusty to do list for TOO LONG! Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey is a classic children’s lit book, winning awards and all sorts of praise since it was written in 1941. It has never gone out of print in the entire 70+ years it has been around – wow! It has been a book on the curriculum list of almost every educator – mostly for younger kids age 4-7 (the publisher recommends age 3-8). In fact, it was a good friend and homeschooling mom who requested these from us a little too long ago.

These worksheets are appropriate for any age level that the book targets. There are vocabulary words and a comprehension quiz for older students, and coloring pages and two printable duckling masks for younger students. During a Make Way for Ducklings unit, I’d also recommend a few rounds of the Duck, Duck, Goose game!

We’re starting to get Olympics Fever around here, and I’m sure nobody is surprised by that at all. :-) We’ve added a ton of new summer Olympics content in the last week because our winter Olympics printables were incredibly popular 2 years ago. I’m a little afraid of how little work I will get done once the games start, because I really enjoy watching the events. Speaking of which, if you’re in the USA, you can go to the NBC Olympics site and punch in your zip code to get an exact viewing schedule for your local area. Most of the events will be starting off and shown in the middle of the night due to the time difference – and then they will broadcast repeats every evening during prime time.
